The Importance of Team Training

Perhaps the results of exercise can be individually evident in the lives of human beings, and ultimately, the outcomes will manifest in each person. However, undoubtedly, teamwork is a great strategy to achieve these results.

Training as a team becomes an advantage that many know how to leverage to lead a healthy and, above all, active life.

In this way, we are not only achieving physical goals but also attaining social developments and interaction with other individuals.

Why Train as a Team?

As a Fitness Coach, I know that team sports challenges lead us to compete against our peers.

We face a higher level of demand and engage in healthy competition to achieve the proposed goals or, in the case of team games, secure a spot in the groups initiating the games.

Without a doubt, when we practice a sport or exercise as a group, we foster camaraderie. We must communicate and understand each other to achieve collective goals and, at the same time, individual targets.

We even encourage healthy competition among peers—those who can go faster, higher, farther in the shortest possible time will push us to exceed our own expectations.

Team Training Maintains Motivation

Teamwork can also help us face defeats much more calmly since it’s not just the individual who bears the burden of losing, but a collective that will endure it, finding solace in teammates.

Another aspect that can gain strength with team exercise is communication—an essential element for playing or challenging each other in a team. It requires verbal and non-verbal skills to achieve victory.

Likewise, as we progress in team training, we start to feel part of the collective and strengthen what is called group belonging, promoting healthy habits in small societies.

Investing our leisure time in practicing a sport, engaging in physical competitions, or group challenges will also lead us away from harmful collective habits such as alcohol, tobacco, or drug consumption.

Motivation can be another advantage of exercising as a team. Taking the demands of training to new levels can motivate us not only to achieve new victories but also to raise the collective level of competitions and achieve better quality in workouts.

Other Benefits of Team Training

Team training also teaches us about responsibility, punctuality, and fulfillment—essential conditions if we want to achieve desired results. Meeting schedules and playing certain roles in a team will lead to group triumph.

People who train as a team also share interesting concepts about improving training techniques, innovative exercises, and even nutrition tips. Undoubtedly, new knowledge will enrich us as athletes.

Group training also often translates to financial savings. With more people training, the cost per class becomes lower, making classes more affordable, and more people can dedicate themselves to the sport.

In crossfit, for example, group competitions are a daily occurrence. It’s almost necessary not only to challenge yourself and reach your limit but also to push others to the pinnacle of their effort—everyone wins with a better level of fitness.

Finally, even in the case of an injury, teams can help overcome it more quickly and efficiently. The group’s solidarity and constant support during an episode filled with frustration and pain can lead to a faster and more effective recovery.
